PRO: Barber quickly became a valuable contributor to the Cowboys' running game as a rookie in 2005 and was even better in his second season. He scored 16 total touchdowns in 2006, leading the team, tying for the NFC lead, and tying for third in the NFL. Barber had the most total touchdowns for a Cowboys running back since Emmitt Smith had 25 in 1995. His 14 rushing touchdowns were the most in the NFC and the third-most in the NFL behind LaDainian Tomlinson (28) and Larry Johnson (17). They were also the most rushing touchdowns by a Dallas running back since Smith set the club record of 25 in 1995. With Barber and Julius Jones in the Dallas backfield, the Cowboys have one of the best young running back duos in the NFL. The duo combined for 1,531 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2005, then combined for 1,738 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in 2006. Much like Jones in 2004, Barber played right away as a rookie and had several outstanding performances. Among rookies, he finished fifth in the NFL in rushing with 538 yards. The Cowboys drafted Barber with their first selection in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.
2006: Barber began his second season as the club's third down back. In the season opener at Jacksonville (9/10), he rushed three times for 13 yards and had two receptions for 13 yards.
