Cowboys Games on the NFL Network

Right now, Cowboys fans are in danger of missing Dallas play the first place Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers, because Texas cable operators like Time Warner and Comcast want to force subscribers to pay a fee to get access to Cowboys games on the NFL Network.

The problem is cable operators like Time Warner and Comcast often discriminate against independent programming like the NFL Network in favor of programming they own like Time Warner’s Turner Classic Movies.

They put their own channels on their standard cable packages while often offering more popular programming like the NFL Network to subscribers for an additional charge. Cable companies like Time Warner want to charge fans $48 to $100 per year to get the NFL Network despite the fact that the Network is only charging providers $7.30 per customer per year for access.

What's laughable is Time Warner's claim that all the NFL Network has to offer outside of the eight NFL games it broadcast’s this fall are reruns, making it unpalatable to consumers. When you consider the only thing on Turner Classic Movies are reruns of 60 year old movies that hardly anyone watches, that claim is groundless.

The fact is, every year the top-rated programs on cable are NFL games and last year was no exception. Of the top 20 rated programs on cable, 17 were NFL games. This year, the NFL Network is carrying eight NFL games which fans will be unable to see because our largest cable systems are discriminating against the NFL Network in favor of their own programming channels.

It's time for fans to contact Time Warner and Comcast to let them know they want the NFL Network and they don’t want to pay an additional fee for access to the programming they want most.

I'm working with the NFL Network on an effort in Texas to make sure Cowboys fans get access to Cowboys games, without having to pay an additional fee.
